About Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient healing technique originating in Egypt, China, Native America and India.

The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease it is in a state of imbalance and vital energy pathways are blocked preventing the body from functioning effectively.
Reflex points for the whole body are found in the feet & hands which enable the practitioner to treat the whole body for a wide range of conditions and can be used to restore and encourage the body’s natural equilibrium and encourage healing. There are more than 7000 nerve endings in the feet so reflexology works to induces a state of deep relaxation and since 75% of disease is stress related, this is a major contribution to the return of health. Reflexology also encourages circulation of blood, lymph and energy around the body.

Several weekly treatments (between 3 and 6) may be necessary to encourage the body to heal itself.

Since reflexology treats the whole person and not just the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment and it is suitable for all ages. Once our body is balanced it is wise to have occasional treatments in order to help maintain health and well-being.

What happens when you go for a treatment?

On your first visit there will be a preliminary consultation with the practitioner. Whilst you are lying on a couch or seated with your legs slightly raised, the reflexologist will work on your feet, or hands if necessary, noting problem areas. There may be some discomfort, but this is fleeting and is an indication of congestion in the corresponding part of the body. For the most part the sensation is pleasant and soothing.

A treatment takes around 1 hour.
